Whey Kylie (played beautifully by Joey King) falls in love, her boyfriend falls victim to the family curse, so she travels to London to try to find a way to cancel the bad juju, while Sally and Gillian race after her.
OK, definitely a chick-flick, but a very entertaining one. (To paraphrase someone, “If a chick-flick is only entertaining to chicks, it’s not a very good flick. I’m looking at you Midsommar ). The visuals were top-notch and simple, which is a relief after a bunch of CGI-heavy epics that rely on cartoon-like story-telling. There were some special-effects, but they were restrained and didn’t over-power the narrative.. The score, by Rupert Gregson-Williams, was simple and not over-moody.
If course, there were lots of feelings expressed, but I’m comfortable with that. I felt Kidman could have had more to contribute than the spaced-out aunt. I felt this slowed the story a bit, but at least I wasn’t squirming uncomfortably.
I’ll recommend this one; probably a great date-night movie; the kids might be bored. No post-credits scenes and the credit were only five or six minutes anyway, so you can broomstick your way out as soon as they start rolling.
