Running time: 8 Episodes

Shortly after arriving at the school Wednesday witnesses a murder of one of her classmates. Her self-absorptive attitude and Goth-like demeanor estranges her from most of the rest of the students, so she has to pretty much go it alone in finding the monster that prowls the school and preventing a disaster.

Jenna Ortega is just simply great as Wednesday; she manages to be the straight person, overtly cold and emotionless, just letting enough slip through to belie the facade she hides behind. Everyone is fantastic, especially Rikki Lindhome (big fan here) and Christina Ricci, who I never recognized until I read the credits. The cinematography is top notch and the special effects never overpower the narrative.

And a shout out for casting Luis Guzman as Gomez; he looks more like the original cartoons than any of the dapper gents who have played him earlier. You be the judge.

I highly recommend this one. I watched the first episode and binged the rest immediately. They kept it tight and didn’t draw it out to a ridiculous number of episodes. Give the first one a try and see if you don’t get hooked.
