Our favorite hard-drinking, snarky, super-strong private investigator is back and she is not happy.
Of course, if she were happy, we wouldn’t like her as much.

Jessica Jones, Season 2

Starring: Krysten Ritter, Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, Janet McTeer, Carrie-Anne Moss, J.R. Ramirez, Rebecca De Mornay

Playing on Netflix

Fresh from her adventures with the Defenders, Jessica is still recovering from escaping Killgrave’s control when her past starts to take control of her present.

This season is much more action-oriented and is more about the women than the last; there is only one male lead in this (Malcolm, her “associate”). To name the Big Bad would be very spoilery, but the Villain IS pretty scary and I did like that.

However, there are too many distractions. The rival PI and Hogarth’s struggle with her illness slow the story down and never really tie into the main narrative; they seem to just be there to extend the season.

Overall, I thought this one was not quite as gripping as Season 1, but still very worth a watch. And, considering the last-minute development regarding one of the leads, I really now want Season 3. Or a spin-off.

Flytrap rating: 8/10
