Don’t you just hate when you move out to the country to get away from It All, but It All won’t stay away?

Review 2017 by Flytrap

Mother!

Written by: Darren Aronofsky

Directed by: Darren Aronofsky

Starring:  Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris
Complete cast and crew here

Rated R
Running time: 121 Mins

A writer and his wife, only referred to as Him and Mother, are living in a secluded area, when people start showing up and harshing their mellow. Things slowly get out of hand.

This is one weird freaking movie, and while I usually embrace the weird, I just could not get into this one. I went from almost falling asleep at the manufactured melodrama to wondering how far overboard they were going to go. Part of the problem was Lawrence; she just wasn’t selling it. Pfeiffer, on the other hand, owned every scene she was in; everyone else should have paid more attention to her. And to say they went overboard, doesn’t come close to describing how utterly preposterous this movie got. Stratospheric? Outrageous? Freakish? My thesaurus fails me.

I really cannot recommend this artsy-fartsy attempt at a metaphoric mind mess. Skip it and watch something on Netflix. There is no post credit scene.
