A failed hero manages to get himself beat up and captured by a motley mob of scavengers while one of the citizens attempts a getaway with their ruler’s harem.

I liked this movie; as far as Mad Max movies go, it has almost everything: High speed chases with super-weird vehicles, people getting crushed under said vehicles, explosions, stunts galore. The cinematography goes from spectacular to breathtaking and it almost never stops. A gorgeous movie from start to finish.

But for the life of me, I cannot understand the accolades this film has generated. Max hardly says a dozen sentences; Furiosa (Theron) is the real star and she is mainly just grim and determined. Maybe it’s the pseudo-feminist message purportedly portrayed here, as in Women Can Be Bad Ass as well as men?

I’ll recommend it, although not as a date movie; you’ll be too tired by the time it’s over. No post-credit scenes.

Flytrap rating: 7.5/10
