Tony Stark can’t sleep; the events in New York, as seen in The Avengers, haunt him. So he spends his nights tinkering, both on his powered suits and himself. Meanwhile, a terrorist named, The Mandarin, is blowing up people and buildings and broadcasting threatening videos. When Stark is visited by an old “girlfriend”, the past catches up with him in a big way.

With some spectacular scenery, effects– and of course Gwyneth Paltro! — this is one fun film. It pauses long enough for us to catch our collective breaths, then ramps everything up another level. Downey is as quippy as ever and Don Cheadle, as Rhodey / The Iron Patriot comes across as a great action hero. Ty Simpkins as Harley, is a great foil to Stark; I hope to see him more. Buckle up for this one — it’s a great ride!

I would warn parents that this is an extremely violent movie, though not gruesome…usually. Poor Happy Hogan — he never gets a break. I saw it in 3D, but you could skip that, as it doesn’t add anything.

I’ll give a big recommendation to this one. Since it’s Marvel, there is a post-credits scene. You should have time to run to the loo, though; the credits are almost ten minutes long.

Flytrap rating: 8 /10
