The New Mutants

Written by: Josh Boone, Knate Lee

Directed by: Josh Boone

Starring: Blu Hunt, Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Alice Braga

Rated PG-13
Running time: 94 mins

Said teenagers, who apparently are mutants, plan on how to party and play in their prison while plots and points develop around them.

There isn’t much more to say about this movie because nothing much more happens in it. The characters are wan and underdeveloped and not that interesting. And Taylor-Joy sometimes forgets she is supposed to have an accent. The special effects are OK, but the director doesn’t seem to know how to manage a big finale. (“Wake up and help us” over and over for half the fight got tiresome very quickly.)

As you can probably tell, I do not recommend this one. Watch Taylor-Joy inĀ The Queen’s Gambit instead; she is excellent there.
