After a terrible accident, a young boy finds a unique friend. When he is found by civilization, the friend is not amused.
This movie works on so many levels that it should appeal to most anyone. Oakes and Oona are a terrific pair with real chemistry. Elliott is beautifully rendered, and this is from someone who generally dislikes CG characters. Everyone is great; even Urban’s somewhat cliched character manages to work.
One of the real stars here is the forest; it has a life of its own that is enchanting, with birds and bugs and bears (Oh my?).
I’ll give this one a big recommendation, a true family film that the hipsters will hate, but your kin will enjoy. I did not see it in 3-D, so I cannot say if it will improve the experience. There are no post credit scenes, so you can fly out when they roll.
