When a scavenger and a renegade storm trooper run into a droid on-the-run, they find themselves in the middle of a galactic conflict.

This is some good Star Wars here: Epic battles in space and in the air, light sabers flashing and the Millennium Falcon! Plus, the newcomers, Ridley, Boyega and Driver ham it up to light-speed. Add in the stars of the original trilogy and you should have a blockbuster.

However, this film relies a lot on Episode 4 for plot. I won’t detail this here, but you’ll see what I mean. And I really wanted a sense of mystery and wonder that I just did not feel. Rather, the film mostly relied on epic special effects and score to thrill us.

I do recommend this and I’ll even recommend you see it 3D; there were some remarkable and novel uses of 3D here. There were no post-credit scenes, so you can scoot when they start to roll.

Flytrap rating: 7.5/10
