When the creature crashes on Earth, said Alien Overlords send the creature’s creator and an “expert” on Earth culture to capture him. Meanwhile, he is adopted by a little girl who thinks (for some reason) that he’s a dog. Shenanigans happen.
I had a lot of fun watching this one, including some loud laugh out loud moments. Maia, who plays Lilo is ADORABLE! Galifianakis and Magnussen, as the hunters, have a great time displaying their slapstick chops. And Hannah Waddington voices the Grand Councilwoman with voluminous verve and energy. The special effects, while a bit cartoony, certainly enhance the thrills. Bright colors, good music, lots of action and some inspired silliness kept me entertained.
However, to nitpick, how could anyone think that this blue, furry, gremlin could be a dog? And the pair of aliens are rather over-the-top goofballs; Abbot and Costello could do better.
I’ll recommend this one; you’ll have a good time. I did not see it in 3-D; I can see how it would have worked well. Kids will probably love it. There is a scene after some of the credits roll, but nothing after that.
