In 1858, a bounty hunter frees a slave and makes a deal with him: Help him find his quarry and he’ll free said slave and reward him. Along the way, they become partners and friends and decide to seek out and rescue the slave’s wife, Broomhilda. That’s right, Broomhilda.

This is a Tarantino movie, so you can expect great performances, lots of drama and blood and you will get this. Lots of action, lots of intense and compelling dialog, along with some great musical accompaniment, keeps this movie moving along with gusto. A great tribute to the Spaghetti Westerns of the 70s, this also blends in the “black exploitation” genre, and considering the setting, well done.

However, at almost three hours, it doesn’t really pay off with anything unexpected and the ending is rather pedestrian, which was disappointing, coming from Tarantino. The gun fights are well done, but the amount of blood that flows gets a bit numbing after a while. And I just could not get over the sun glasses.

Oh, and no Uma Thurman.

All in all, a very good time to be had and I would highly recommend this one. There is a very quick, useless post-credits scene that added nothing. If you need to hit the loo, do so and catch it on the Blu-Ray when you buy it.

Flytrap rating: 8 /10
