Rated R

When his girlfriend gets a marvelous job offer in Los Angeles, a Witness Protection Programee decides to take her there, despite the very real threat to his life. The ensuing road trip is joined by just about everyone they know and some she doesn’t.

I have to give this a “meh”. Although much of the dialogue is engaging, the car chases are a bit dumb. (Who does donuts when you’re being shot at?) Annie (Kristin Bell) seems a bit over-the-needy-top much of the time and while her reaction to finding out why Charles (Dax Shepard) was in the program is understandable, her actions are a bit silly. Their relationship is never that interesting, especially when it comes under duress.

On the other hand, Tom Arnold is terrific as the Marshall in charge of Charles’ case; he bumbles around brilliantly, never quite too much. Kristin Chenoweth got me most of the rest of my laughs as Annie’s boss. Bradley Cooper seems a bit out of place as a murderous thug, but he does the job.

There are some laughs in this, but a lot of the dialog is almost cringe-worthy, especially between the two leads. But Arnold and Chenoweth lighten it up enough to almost save this. Go during the matinee and don’t expect too much.

Flytrap rating: 5 / 10
